Quick Update

7:21 am on Monday, October 30, 2006

I had a few minutes before supper to catch y’all up on what we’ve been up to. We have had an unusually busy weekend. Saturday was the annual Loachapoka syrup soppin’. It crept up on us fast this year. Noah usually blacksmiths and makes a lot of things to sell, but this year he just had a chance to make a few items (he really does more custom work now). Saturday morning turned out cold and windy. We arrived at 7:00am because Rebekah was working in the kitchen this year learning how to make sweet potato fritters. Grace did weaving; demonstrating how it worked. She does a really good job! Noah, of course, did blacksmithing, which I must say was the ideal place to be on that chilly morning! We were glad when the sun came out around noon! Later in the day, Daddy brought the little boys and came to see everybody. Grandmother and Granddaddy were also able to come down. At the end of the day we couldn’t leave without buying a jar of sourghum syrup! LOL!

On Sunday afternoon everyone from church gathered at our house for a Reformation Celebration.  They came early enough to play ball, slide on the zip line, tour the obstacle course, check out the chicken operation, jump on the trampolines, and enjoy the beautiful day. Then people brought chairs and set them up on the playing field and we had a time where different families could sing, play instruments, recite scripture, etc., related to the Reformation. The rest of the evening was spent in sweet fellowship. Oh, they’re calling me to supper.
Until next time…

Fun at the Farm with the Fannings

5:16 pm on Friday, October 27, 2006

Last week (10/14) I went up to visit my sister, Lora Lynn, and her family in Virginia. We worked and tried to get some organizing and baking done. I also was able to do two photo shoots for some of Lora Lynn’s friends. Both seemed to turn out pretty well. And yes, we also managed to have a little fun during the week…well more like a lot of fun!! Thanks Lora Lynn for the lovely trip out to the thrift store (time sure does pass quickly in there.LOL!), late nights at the piano, flute lessons and the fun lunch outing! Andrew, thanks for helping me with all my technical issues (I am ever indebted to you-and yes, I will get working on those descriptions) and for your unbeatable limeades.

The week passed too fast and before we knew it, Friday had arrived! We loaded everything and everybody up and headed down to meet the family and drop me off, then they headed up to Tennessee to spend a week with Andrew’s parents. On our drive down, we dropped by Mr. Joel Salatin’s Polyface Farm to look around. Our cousin Luke and his wife, Kristen, met us there. We had quite an adventure there. You can read about it on Lora Lynn’s blog: www.vitafamiliae.com. I took advantage of the beautiful fall scenery to snatch a few photos at the farm. Enjoy.

It was a gorgeous fall day!

Pretzels!

Rabbits

8:13 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2006

We finally got the camera to work long enough for us to snag a few pics of the little rabbits. I am afraid they weren’t as enthusiastic about it as we were. Oh well! LOL!

Cute!

Genesis sits still for the camera.

Please…let…me….go! Emanuel holds this rabbit still for the camera.

Bunnies and Bees

1:05 pm on Monday, October 16, 2006

Today the ladies of the house gathered to discuss what needed to be done. We decided to work on cleaning and organizing the kitchen. So, we sent all our little guys out with Noah to work on our fall garden. As we ladies worked in the kitchen we came across our little digital camera. I thought it would be of good value since Abbi is away visiting with Lora Lynn and has her camera with her. I then, seeing it had no batteries, went to look for some. After scavenging around a bit I finally managed to scrape enough together. As I returned with the batteries, I found that I had misplaced the camera! At that moment, the little guys came running in with  Emanuel triumphantly carrying a small rabbit in his hands. They excitedly related to us the whole story of how they caught the rabbit while working in the garden. Quite entertaining! We congratulated them on their catch and past the rabbit (affectionately named Genesis) around for all to hold. I, however was searching for the camera! Not finding it, I called for helpers. We still didn’t find it. Then, halting our search, we put the rabbit in a box we had prepared for it, sent the boys back out to work and resumed our duties. But not for long! Not two minutes later they came running in again saying “We found Exodus, we found Exodus!”. We then placed the second little rabbit in the box with the first and sent them out again. I, now determined to find the camera, began searching. After a very detailed search, I finally found it! I then retrieved the batteries and put them in. Then found that they were to low for the camera to take a picture! Weelllll! Since I couldn’t take a picture I decided that I would at least go and see where they found the poor rabbits. Upon my arrival, I was informed that they thought they had found the hole in which the rabbits lived. It was in some bushes on the other side of a fence. They then proceeded to lead me under the fence and to the hole, while I was warning them not to step on the old barbed wire fencing on the ground. Then, in all the confusion, I was attacked by some angry bumblebees (yes, bumblebees of all things!) and got stung twice. Everyone then tried to scrambled back under the fence resulting in more confusion! We did, however, manage to all get out and I returned to the house. After Benadryl Spray was applied and a ice pack put on, to keep the swelling down, it began to feel much better. I then began to write this so that all of you may read the amusing story about our morning of bunnies and bees. ~Rebekah

Happy 18th Birthday Noah!

7:12 am on Saturday, October 7, 2006

For Noah’s birthday (9/30) we went and spent the day hiking and had a picnic! It was a lovely day and we had lots of fun. To our great delight, Granddaddy, Grandmother, Uncle Brooke, Aunt Jodi (Momma’s sister) and Mr. Jaime (Aunt Jodi’s friend), were able to come join us on our little escapade through the woods!

First we hiked to a cleared field with a beautiful view.

A classic way to finish off the day – to drink a bottle of IBC root beer!

Wee Sir Gibbie

9:46 am on Friday, October 6, 2006

Gibbie is a busy little ham never failing to make us laugh.  The laughs range from laughing so hard your eyes water, to muffled laughs (at something that’s not supposed to be funny).  Our family has captured a few “ham moments” with the camera. Enjoy!~R

Ah-ha, I know!

Doe-dee-doe.

Cutie!

Strobe mode!

Cheese!

Whoo-hoo!
