Garden Progress

1:48 pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2007

Our garden is coming along wonderfully. The seeds we planted in the greenhouse are beginning to come up and we are amazed at how quickly they grow. We also enjoy seeing other things we planted come up.

Grace waters the garden beds.

Garlic.

Yummy Spinach! We all enjoy fresh spinach salads.

Taking in the sun.

Little seedlings in the greenhouse.

Ta-da!

Growing, growing, growing……

The flower garden is also doing well. Here are some that just recently came up. ~R

Various Faces of the Family

God continuously blesses us. Noah just put his first batch of chickens out to pasture yesterday. Praise the Lord that this batch has done really well. Noah pretty much has gotten down a system now and has only lost three so far. In past batches, he usually had lost twenty to thirty by the time he put them out to pasture at three weeks. We also have our garden started. Looking forward to the yummy vegetables! As for us girls, we have been staying busy baking bread and doing some sewing. We’re trying to finish all our projects up before the Vision Forum Father/Daughter Retreat Daddy is taking us to this upcoming weekend. Hopefully we will see some of you there!

I noticed that we hadn’t posted any pictures of our crew recently. So the pictures below are from one evening last week that we were enjoying the beautiful weather.  Have a blessed week!

Momma and “little” Nehemiah.

Toothless Eman.

Say “Cheese”!

Dear little brothers.

The Sanders Men (except the poor baby who had to stayed home with us ladies) off on a camp out expedition.

Garden Update

10:45 am on Wednesday, March 21, 2007

The beginning of last week was very warm. After finally receiving our seeds in the mail, we started some of them in the greenhouse. Once you worked in the greenhouse for a while, stepping outside where it was in the upper 80′s, actually felt cool. Gracie had gotten some wildflower seeds and so we tilled up a bed for her to plant them in. Spring is fast approaching, so enjoy the cool weather while it lasts.

Helping Grace get her flower bed going.

Noah started the lettuce and broccoli. I also started some new herbs-lemon balm, lavender vera, oregano and cumin.

Sweet potatoes sprouting.

Little boys help.

Grace and Ethan spread mulch on the paths they made with our ever abundant rock supply. (We grow rocks every time it rains. LOL.)

Noah set the greenhouse up nicely, didn’t he?

There’s nothing better than working in the garden and getting to dig in the dirt!

Won’t this be pretty when the flowers come up?

Signs of Spring

1:47 pm on Thursday, March 15, 2007

Spring is beginning to peek out all around. The redbud trees are blooming, bringing a hint of pink in the woods. Other trees are also beginning to show their little green leaves. Bees are busier than ever, collecting nectar from every flower to be found. Green grass is forcing it’s way up through dead leaves. Flowers are popping up everywhere and robins are flitting about the ground in search of worms. Various birds sing their gay songs. Spring is in the air.

Pear blossoms take in the sun.

Our oriental peach tree adds it’s beautiful colors.

Buds getting ready to open up.

These little flowers could easily be trampled on and never noticed. With blooms little bigger than the head of a strait-pin, and stems as thin as thread, they show how creative and detailed our Creator is.

Another small and intricate example of His splendor.

Alone but not forgotten. (Notice the grass right behind it. It is nice and green thanks to Noah’s chickens :] )

Our field was filled with robins as they looked for many various meals. I managed to get a few pics from far away.

God is so good!

The More The Merrier

11:00 am on Monday, March 12, 2007

Last week we had a delightful visit from some dear friends of ours. There were many wonderful memories made throughout the week! LOL! We thank the Lord for blessing us with such friends so that we may encourage and learn from one another.

The Guys: Eman, Mr. Edgar, Noah, Ethan and Mr. Willie

The Girls: Abbi, Marty, Rebekah, Norma and Gracie

Extra Helping Hands…

10:59 am on Monday, March 12, 2007

enable you to get a lot more accomplished in a lot less time!

Noah wants to thank Mr. Edgar and Mr. Willie for their time and talents in assisting him around the house. He was able to get so much done with their help and really enjoyed getting to visit while they worked. We girls would like to thank dear Marty and Norma for their precious servant hearts in helping us with our daily “three C’s” (cooking, cleaning and caring for children). Getting to visit with them while we worked was such a blessing and treat to us! With their willing hands, they came and just fit right in. Love you girls and can’t wait to see you soon! Also we are so thankful to Mr. Fritz and Mrs. Conley for allowing us to have their oldest children for a few days. I’m sure they had to sacrifice much in their absence. Our home is open anytime and we hope your whole family can make it up for a visit sometime in the near future!

Noah and Mr. Edgar working on the greenhouse.

Hurry, hurry… a race with the sun.

Getting rid of the extra plastic.

Little boys.

The result of hard labor! Doesn’t it look nice? (Now, if only our seeds would arrive in the mail soon! LOL!)

The girls inside playing cards while supper is cooking in the oven. (As to the lack of girl pictures, well we came to the conclusion that pictures of “building a greenhouse” were more interesting than pictures of “cooking in the kitchen”. Anyways, we didn’t have many pictures of us to post either. LOL!)

Stew Cookin’

11:28 am on Saturday, March 10, 2007

At the end of February some friends of ours held their annual barbecue that we attended (we ate the hogs we told about in a previous post). Granddaddy, Grandmother and Uncle Brooke were able to come down for the day to join us. The Lord was so gracious and it was a beautiful day!

This year was the largest crowd with over 600 people that came throughout the day.

Grandmother watching the little boys run around.

Mr. Byron, a faithful teacher of the art and skill of cooking on a wood burning stove. (I’m sure your an expert by now Kressy!)

Rebekah catching on quickly to the tossing of cornbread (all for the looks you know). LOL!

The huge lunch crowd. People know where to come for delicious food.

Abbi and Audrey Ann (our cousin). We were delighted to get to see and visit with our cousin who was able to make it down for the day.

Enjoying the good food in the shade.

Serving up the drinks.

Talking of good times…

Uncle Brooke takes advantage of warm sunshine, a comfy chair, which results in Zzzzzzz….

My dear brother engaged in a conversation.

The famous stirring of the Whatley Stew.

Daddy, Gracie, Ethan, Granddaddy and Grandmother visiting.

An expert… two at a time.

We girls took a walk. Above Gracie is enjoying the remnants of southern snow.

Momma letting the ladies view our blog. LOL!

Meanwhile, the guys are outside enjoying a game of Ultimate Frisbee.

Ethan on “defense”.

The onlookers.

Helping clean up and bag the leftover stew.

The man of the day! A wonderful host.

A Black & White Perspective

11:33 am on Friday, March 2, 2007

Nehemiah decided to explore the garden. “Hey,Bekah! What’s this?”

1a. “Hey, Bekah! Watch this!” or 2a. “Help! I can’t get out! I’m a prisoner!”

 1b. “I can eat the fence!” or 2b. “I know! I’ll chew out….”

1c. “Yum, this fence is really good….. It’s healthy too…. Got lots of iron….”
or 2c. “Great… eeeeerrrrrrgg…… this…. may take longer than I thought..”

Sweet feet. (I know it’s only one FOOT, but swoot foot didn’t quite make sense;].)
