Pumpin’ Pie-ano On Thanksgiving

10:28 am on Thursday, November 29, 2007

We got together with Momma’s side of the family the weekend before Thanksgiving since we were going up to Indiana the next week. Sorry I don’t have any pictures when everyone was there eating and playing games, but somehow I only have pictures of how we passed our time in the morning before everyone arrived for lunch.

What is the Sanders Family up to now?

Can you guess?

Yep, my Grandmother got a player piano! I think there was barely a time it was not being played. It was pretty neat to watch the keys playing all over the place without the aid of human fingers. No siree, this only takes a lot of effort from your feet, pumping air with pedals. And then there’s the “holding on for your dear life” death grip so you won’t topple backwards. Throughout the day we were serenaded with tunes from Mary Poppins and a Gershwin Medley played by Liberache.  Sounded like we had professional piano players in the house. It’s a great source of fun at Grandmother’s house, but I’m so glad we don’t have one – it can be a little much at times! LOL!
Noah goes for it.

All “pumped” up.

Meanwhile outdoors, Gabriel is getting in some target practice with the BB gun.

Cocking it.

Nehemiah driving the tractor.

Noah and Granddaddy share laughs as I make the 5th (and successful) try at getting a picture with both their eye’s open! LOL!

Fall Walk

9:46 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Hey Folks,

We are back from all our holiday travels (as of midnight this morning) and are settling back into “the routine”. Upon our returning we found our bread and granola supply all gone and so Grace and I have been working on solving that “problem” today. And there is also the unpacking of ten people, laundry, mail sorting (we are still getting our sister’s mail), egg gathering, plant watering, etc. that comes from being gone. But we had a wonderful trip and will share with you all later pictures from our travels.

The pictures below are from a visit to the property before Thanksgiving. We walked around enjoying the pretty fall colors.

The shop with its little patch of grass.

Nehemiah gets a ride.

To get things in perspective in relation to the shop, if you look at the top right corner of this picture, the pond is located in the valley between that hill and the trees.

Noah making sure no critters had made themselves comfy in the pop-up since we saw the door had been left open. He reported that all was clear.

Gabriel’s boat he made (all by himself) to play with in the pond.

Gabriel’s thinking: “Hmmm…to the dock or the water?”

They just finished building the dock and it will be very nice for fishing in the future.

The perfect spot for Virginia Reels and such.

Daddy and Ethan made a crow’s nest up on the top of the treehouse. NEAT!

As I was climbing up in the treehouse Grace called out for me to “take a picture of her”. So I did.

A better view of things from up above.

Master Ethan joins me up in the crow’s nest. Ahoy mate.

Warning: Not for the faint of heart.

Slowing but surely the water is making its way upward.

Camo Manuel (with his broken collarbone, which by the way is doing fine. Our problem now that he is feeling better, is to make sure he doesn’t over do it. Little boys and the words “don’t do anything rough or dangerous” don’t go together. If you know what I mean. LOL!) in the mud.

My favorite are candid shots!

Mother walks into the landscape of Jane Austen’s P&P. Lovely, just lovely.

Boats+mud+water+sticks=a little boy’s heaven.

Hopefully next fall we will have some pretty reflections of the colorful trees in the water.

Up the big hill.

Fellow photographers, here’s the secret to be in the picture but still stay behind the camera. LOL!

Shadows.

Hikin’ along.

Feelin’ at the top of the world.

Landmark oak tree.

Lime remnants from the big pile used in the pond.

Hey, Gabriel’s really gotten taller. LOL!

Deep in the colored forest.

“Hey, look at me Momma!”

No explanation.

Self Portrait at its best (out of the ones I took, at least).

Gabriel’s and my view. Gorgeous I tell ya, you should try it sometime.

My handsome knight sweeps me off to my feet.

God’s painting.

Down to the creek we head.

Eman’s hair blended in to the foliage.

Daddy talking to Momma as we go along.

The boys take a break to wrestle.

I love this picture. Brother huddle planning their next course of action.

WOW!

Art.

Nehemiah smiles for me in the creek.

A few splashes are made before we have to head back.

Coming back out at the back of the dam.

Have a great week!

Dock Building 101

7:35 pm on Tuesday, November 6, 2007

Hello all! Rebekah here. I just thought I would share about what Daddy, Ethan, and I did on Monday. This past Saturday, the guys had framed up a dock for our pond. The only thing left to do on it was put on the decking. So, on Monday, I filled in as best I could for Noah (who had to stay home and set up for “chicken harvesting”) and went off to the property with Daddy and Ethan to work on the decking. Upon our arrival at the property, we checked everything out and planned what we needed to do first. There was a little more framing to do on the dock, so we tackled that job then carried the lumber for the decking down from the shop. When all the decking was stacked on the dock, we began the process of laying the first board. After checking and rechecking all measurements, we screwed it in and began on the next one. Daddy did the first couple of boards while we watched and assisted. Then Ethan and I took over while Daddy went to cut some boards to fit the walkway of the dock. All morning Ethan and I pulled, pushed, and screwed those boards to fit. I must here note that the majority of boards are NOT straight. So, they do not just fit together nicely while you screw them in, perfectly butted up against the previous board resulting in a easy and quick job. No siree, maybe in your dreams but not in real life. Those boards were not all straight. Meaning we had to force them to go straight. Resulting in a harder and longer job. I’m not complaining though. Because, even though it took all day and it was no picnic, I had fun working with my brother all day! He kept me going and laughing. One time I had to tell him to stop making me laugh because I was laughing so hard I kept stripping the screw I was trying to screw in! Fun times! Well, anyway, while Ethan and I worked on that, Daddy was working up in the treehouse framing up some stuff for the lattice we’re putting on top. We all worked until almost dark and with Daddy’s help on the last couple boards, we finished decking the main part of the dock! Praise the Lord! After gathering up our tools we headed home. Tired, but with a sense of accomplishment. Here are a few pics of our day. Have a blessed week!~Bekah

Morning dew on the fast growing grass we planted.

Working.

Laughing. (Don’t you love Daddy’s hat he let me borrow? LOL!)

Finishing up the last board.

Success! Enjoying the fruit of our labor.

Three cheers for CamelBaks!

Nothin’ Much of Anything

10:14 am on Tuesday, November 6, 2007

We are doing well. “Yes,” you say. “I know that, but where’s the real news?” Sorry to disappoint you, but what did you expect when a post has a title such as this one does? This week we are staying busy “harvesting” 100 chickens. And next week we will do the last hundred. We’ll catch back with ya later!

Oh, until then, here’s something to ponder for those of you who have nothing else to do. LOL! We went and picked up pecans last week. We filled up a whole trashcan full to the top and a big galvanized round bucket (guessing at least 10 gal) with them. Momma took the pecans to be cracked and we paid by the pound. Can any guess how many pounds there were?

CD For the Celtic Fanatics

7:15 am on Thursday, November 1, 2007

As many of you know, in our house, we love listening to Celtic music. This CD, “Piper’s Dance”, has been one of our favorites so far. It was one of the gifts I received for my birthday recently and has already seen a good bit of use. It has a wonderful blast of tunes that are great as background music for working to, dancing to, or just listening to. We have thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it highly! ~Bekah
