The First Fruits

Eman caught a bass in our pond. 16 inches long and 10 inches around.

Lickin’ his lips.

One fish and one loaf.

Completely Finished

Last week the fireplace guys came and installed the doors.

It makes the fireplace look complete.

Siding Sights

6:15 am on Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Two weeks ago our siding was delivered and stacked on the basement slab.

Mr. David had planned to start putting it up last week, but because of the rainy weather he didn’t come until Monday.

Two of Mr. David’s Mennonite friends from Ohio drove down and are here for a couple days to help out. They’d done siding on ICF before.

Finishing sealing the wiring on the porches.

Cutting pieces.

It just makes the house look so much more finished!

Grace’s art.

Sealing and making things air tight.

Working on one side.

Lookin’ it over.

Can you tell our family likes this brownish/greenish color? Does it remind you of anything, like this?

The soffits.

Beautiful day!

They’ve been working hard and fast.

They are trying hard to finish putting the siding up today before Mr. Bert and Mr. Jacob have to return home tonight. Probably Mr. David will finish up the soffits and such later.

Up high.

What do y’all think about the siding?

Family Drops In

11:12 am on Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Two weekends ago, Uncle Jon (Daddy’s brother) and cousin Ben dropped by. They were on their way back home to Indiana after a week at Challenge. One other young man, Seth, was car-pooling with them also. It was about mid-afternoon on Saturday when they arrived, however they had to get back on the road Monday morning. It was a short visit, but we are so grateful they stopped in and saw us. I believe the Lord blessed the time spent catching up and visiting.

Saturday LL and Andrew and their crew came down for the afternoon and supper.

Hearing many Challenge stories from their week.

Sunday afternoon we all went on a hike.

After many years of faithful service, our pop-up camper is spending its retirement as a seedling bench.

Your can take the beaten trail, or blaze your own!

Up at Noah’s house site.

Little man helping clear a fallen tree from the path.

Yes, you can only guess what he did after this picture was shot…….shake on all the screaming bystanders. J

Daddy, the water supplier.

Down at the garden.

It’s great when you can grow something that is not only pretty, but also edible, like this Crimson Okra.

Practicing his Challenge Staff stare.

“Are you taking pictures of me?”

Benny reenacting the way he used to suck his baby bottle. Seriously, that’s what he said!

Headed out of the garden to continue on our way.

Gatherin’ round the old salt lick.

Can you tell they’re brothers, or what?

This was woven across our path.

Now we enter the thick forest….

….where no one (of us) has gone before!

Having a ‘Challenge Moment’.

Need weed seeds?

“Did you see the turkey that just flew over my head?!!!”

Following the ‘Red Clay Road’.

“Um, does anyone know where we’re going?”

We emerge from the woods.

A dead tree, I guess?

Wow, beeaayutiful scenery. You’d think we were in some state park or something. What a reminder of God’s splendor and creativity.

Seth said he was claiming the hill in the name of his homeland, Indiana.

Nehemiah takes us on a trip on the “Log-mobile”.

Ok, enough of the serious poses!

Frayed wood.

Exploring new territory.

Still Momma’s little boy.

“Are you sure we’re related?”.

Vanilla and Chocolate.

Momma and I are in the process of rocking the bottom of our columns out front. This was Momma’s first try. Doesn’t it look good?

Our walk ended in a downpour. Everyone decided to have Benny read to them. Somehow they ended up reading “Fun with Pets”. J

As much visiting as possible was packed in that night.

A 1am picture. LOL!

Thanks for stopping by!

Weekend Refreshment

8:42 am on Monday, October 12, 2009

For the first time since last December, our whole family was able to go away overnight. There was a conference our family was planning to attend about two hours away. We’d just planned to come back home on Friday night to take care of the farm animals (we have almost 700 chickens right now) and then travel back for the rest of the conference Saturday morning. Well when Grandmother and Granddaddy heard what our plans were, they offered to come spend Friday night here and take care of all the chores! I can’t tell you what a blessing that was to our family! That’s a huge responsibility for just two people.

So we were able to go and spend the night at the Whatley’s house, which was only about 40 minutes from the church where the conference was held. It was a great time of refreshing and encouraging fellowship with the Maxwell family. We’d attended their conference about 5 years ago, but we found that hearing what they shared was a much needed reminder for us.

Sunrise Saturday morning.

Setting up our picnic lunch.

We got to visit with the Maxwell’s some during lunch.

They just finished building their house and were gracious to share what they learned with us.

Byron was able to come for the weekend with us as well.

After lunch Christopher and Sarah shared about Starting a Home Business.

Our last session for the ladies and daughters was by Mrs. Teri on “Loving Your Husbands” (which can also be applied to loving your fathers).

For more pictures visit the Maxwell blog where they’ve been faithfully chronicling their trip.

Wet as a Dog

The team after hiking up our creek when we’d just had a downpour.

Cheese!

A lineup for the showers ensued.

Editor’s Note: I know there’s been a lack of posts lately, but we’ve been having computer trouble. Recently I haven’t been able to access the computer I use for blogging. Thanks for y’alls patience! Hopefully I can start posting regularly again soon. Got tons of exciting adventures to share with y’all. Until then……God Bless!
