Various notes from the Sanders family

Things are Looking Up!

6:58 pm on Monday, December 28, 2009

Don’t have much time for blogging this week. We’ll see…… We’ve begun painting in the house and today we got the first coat of ceiling primer on the main floor and started on the upstairs’ second coat (first coat of paint). Hoping to finish that tonight after supper. Muscles are being used that some of us haven’t used in a long time. J Lord Willing, our plan is to push and finish all three coats for the ceilings on both floors in the next two days. I have a feeling afterwards our necks will be permanently seeing this view:

Merry CHRISTmas!

Sunday: Sillies

8:22 pm on Thursday, December 24, 2009

Hey, that’s my camera! So yep, most of these photo credits go to Aunt Barbara. Thanks!

Grammy knit most everyone a scarf for Christmas. So we just had to style them for ya……

Noah’s colors.

How do ya like the new look?

Undercover….

Seriousness…..

Sunday: Indiana Part 2

6:15 pm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009

The evening activities:

It’s more exciting to play “10 on the couch” than just four.

Looking through our 2009 photo book.

Gabriel is our sweet servant who loves to rub people’s sore feet.

We weren’t quite sure if there was going to be an opportunity (being a work week) to get all the family together. So Grammy decided to pass out her gifts to those there that evening.

“The snow came up to here….”

Aunt Toody.

Something musta been interesting over in this corner.

Cheese….trying to cover the fact that she is about to put a generous, ‘Sanders Size’ helping of butter on her toast.

Notice the angle most of these pictures are taken from….yep, little brothers took over the coverage for me that evening. J

Looking at…you guessed it—pictures.

Mother and Son.

Laundry anyone?

Late night conversations.

Our family has great talents……

Sunday: Indiana

8:46 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2009

Sunday morning we got to sleep in (oh what joy!) before heading to church with Grammy and Aunt Toody. They were having their Christmas program that morning. From church I rode home with Grammy to help her start fixing a yummy meal while the rest of the Fam picked up a few groceries. Ethan and Noah had ridden with Isaac (cousin) to go feed their chickens before coming over. It was a relaxing, laughter-filled afternoon spent with family. They even snuck in a celebration of……

….my 19th birthday. (Thanks to everyone who called to wish me a Happy Birthday that day!) Picture credit goes to my talented Aunt.

Ethan.

“Is there a way to suck some energy out of this kid?!” LOL! The boys had saved up endless amounts of energy from having to sit the previous few days and it was then taken out on their poor cousins. “Wanna wrestle? Wanna wrestle?!” J

The reading corner.

“Just a pile of blood and dirt and tuff skin jeans”

I wonder what they’re up to…..

I was told that next time I was either gonna have to have a bigger cake or just have a number candle. LOL!

I must have been quite entertaining to attract so much focus……yeah right.

Eli was so cute. He bashfully came up with a gift his mother had told him to take to me.

Graceful.

Opening a few gifts.

Full house.

When you start receiving a neck pillow, chocolate and a back massager instead of jump ropes and toys, you’ve officially become “old”! I was like, “Watch out Caleb, you’ve only got a few months left!” LOL!

Aunt Barbara and Uncle Jon.

*Laughter* seemed to be the motto that evening.

Yum……

Enjoying Grammy’s famous caramel icing!

Love it!

SOS Conference: Saturday

7:21 am on Monday, December 21, 2009

The time went by so fast and the last day, Saturday, had come. We checked out of our hotel that morning and skipped the first session so we could load up our van. There were two more breakout sessions that morning. One message I went to was Paul Washer’s The Importance of Biblical Family Life for the Spread of the Gospel. It was very convicting and one of my favorite talks of the weekend.

For lunch we walked across the street to a little sandwich shop and ate with the Fox Family. We met them in San Antonio at the Entrepreneurial Bootcamp several years ago. It was good to catch up with them!

Visiting with Bailey.

For some reason it was like 80 degrees in there! Whew, quite toasty.

Discussions.

Our posse gathers to say hi to the Morton boys.

The parents’ end of the table.

After lunch we headed back to hear the final talk by Voddie Baucham on The SOS in the Disciple-Making Ministry of the Church and the Home. Then there was the closing charge.

Marty and cutie pie!

We waited around for the set of CD’s we’d ordered and visited with friends.

The gathering spot.

Our plan was to head out that evening for Grammy’s house (2 hours away) to spend several days with Daddy’s family. Daddy was so gracious though, and let us……

…..go eat supper with friends before leaving town.

“The Pair” together…..

Welcome to “Big Boys”. Actually, when our party of 40 came in, I think we overwhelmed the restaurant staff just a little bit. J

The Decker/Smith table.

Deciding what to order.

The guys’ booth.

Momma & Daddy, Mr. Fritz & Mrs. Conley and Mr. Marc & Mrs. Laura all carried on a conversation around this table (plus micro-managed the little ones). I forgot to get a picture of the little boys’ table.

Our poor waitress was very patient with us all. LOL!

Menu choices and tic-tac-toe games.

The guys got their food first, so Campbell decided to go over and “steal” some of her brother’s fries. LOL!

We all had a wonderful time visiting and talking about what had been learned from the past few days. Afterwards, we headed towards Indiana……

Technical Difficulties

5:44 pm on Sunday, December 20, 2009

Thanks to all of you who’ve called asking about our blog being down. It’s back up and running now. Hopefully everything is straightened out. We’ll see……

Come back tomorrow for coverage on the last day at the SOS conference. Until then, Merry Christmas and God Bless!

SOS Conference: Friday

7:38 am on Friday, December 18, 2009

The sessions started back up bright and early the next morning. Really early for us since we were still adjusting to the time change. The  two keynote speakers that morning were Voddie Baucham and Doug Phillips. Then the rest of the morning and afternoon there were three breakout sessions. We had to choose from five different talks each time. Hard pickins, I tell ya.

Doug Phillips on The Sufficiency of Scripture and the Heart of the NCFIC

Sneaking pics of the fam.

Taking notes. For you know your brain can take only so much before it gets information overload.

Down the row.

Having some snacks over lunch break while visiting with the “F” family.

Miss Sarah.

There were some tables provided upstairs, but the hard part was finding an available one.

That evening there were three keynotes. One was on the Scripture is Sufficient for Ministry to Youth by Scott Brown. Notice the man in front. He was so faithful to sign for the hearing impaired during the sessions.

Brother and Sister.

My camera ham.

The last session of the night was by Paul Washer. Wow! His message was all about the SOS and the Gospel. Definitely not your “feel good about yourself” speech. But if you’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing him before, it’s so convicting!

No matter how good a teacher is, at the end of the day it is hard to stay focused (Poor Daddy was so tired since he’d missed a night’s sleep on the drive up).

Zzzzz……This one didn’t even fight it. J

“Christ . . . its all about Christ!”

SOS Conference: Thursday

9:08 am on Thursday, December 17, 2009

We’re back as of yesterday morning…. As most of you know, we left for Cincinnati last Wednesday night. Daddy drove through the night and we arrived right around rush hour. J

Thankfully we were able to check into our hotel early and get the van unloaded. We also visited with some friends who were staying at the same hotel for the conference.

It was a pretty drastic (but fun) change of temperature for us Southerners. The high was like in the teens that day! Brrrr… The snow came down softly as we freshened up and got ready to head over to the Creation Museum

We had been to the museum before as you remember, but we’ve always wanted to go back when it wasn’t so crowded.

Lookin’ above….

….to the giant Mastodon.

Watching the turtles.

Gracie.

Close up.

After going to the “Men in White” show, we waited for the Planetarium showing of the “Christmas Star”. That was neat!

Watching more turtles as we waited.

Gabriel.

We were able to visit with several families we knew who were there for the conference as well.

One thing that was different from our previous visit was that they’d put our name up on the wall.

Here we are under “S”.

All us kids.

Starting on the walk through the seven C’s.

Silhouette in front of Mt. St. Helens.

There were many animatronic dinosaurs throughout the museum. Some were majestic looking, while some made you glad they don’t wander in our backyards anymore.

Getting to read everything this time.

Explaining a sign to Gabriel.

Old Testament Prophets.

Amazing detail on these life-like mannequins.

An old copy of the Scriptures.

Walking through…..

….the tunnel of stars.

Picture of a picture.

Bro’s.

“And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.” ~Genesis 1:24~

Momma and Daddy in the garden before……

…..the fall.

Look, there’s Cain and Abel! See, that’s why you don’t hit your brothers.

Noah looking at part of the ark.

Nehemiah was too young to remember the visit last time, so he thoroughly enjoying seeing everything this time ’round.

Telling Daddy what he’d just seen! It was so funny because if we were sitting watching a video on something, he would answer all the rhetorical questions. LOL!

Up in the dinosaur den.

Innocent Grace doesn’t know what’s going on behind her.

“Stay away from my sister!”

The gals in front of dinosaur skeletons.

The oldest is not always the tallest. J Actually three times last month different peopled guessed my age to be 15. I’ll enjoy that when I get older, I guess.

Riding a…..something horned-creature.

After we finished walking through the museum, Mr. Fritz called and met us in the gift shop with Mrs. Conley and Marty. It was good to see them, plus we were able to let them use our guest passes. Once Daddy got them in, we headed out to find some food.

Daddy took us to Cracker Barrel. Eating out is a treat for us.

Discussing what we’d seen or read at the museum.

Ne-hi.

We’d already received our bill, but were finishing up a conversation before leaving. Then our waitress came to our table, took our bill and said we didn’t need it anymore. We kinda gave her a questioning look and she explained that the elderly couple who’d been sitting across from us paid for our meal. Daddy found them before they left and we all thanked them. They said that they wanted to bless us in the Name of Jesus. Wow! We really did feel blessed. From there we went to the hotel to get our Bibles before heading to conference for the first evening session.

Opening announcements.

The Men’s choral sang “Speak, O Lord”. Beautiful!

Over 2600 people attended.

Alan and his father, Mr. Bret, were part of the choral.

The Fam listening.

The first session was by Scott Brown who was then followed by Doug Phillips.

Visiting with friends during a thirty minute break.

The last session that evening by Ken Ham. If you want more details on what the talks were about, go here where there were live blog postings.
