Various notes from the Sanders family

Higher Ground

7:02 am on Monday, February 1, 2010

Since our bottom garden has been really wet, we had Mr. Tad clear another garden site that is located up on a terraced hillside.

Now we can plant in the higher garden spot in wet seasons and the lower in dry times.

One terrace.

A neighbor graciously brought us some rotted hay bales for mulch.

Mr. Tad clearing.

The boys had a “hay day” on the bales!

They played freeze tag on the bales and of course Blake and the cats joined in.

Yipee…….have a great Monday!

[...] …around the farm.   Momma’s going for a more “antique-ish” (old world) look in the Master bedroom.   Here is their gorgeous fan. Not so much a good lighting source, but they can add some lamps lights around the room.   I love this inquisitive expression on his face!     In which the dog and cat play….   …. with a mouse.   Ok, now to clarify some of the confusion brought up in the post about planting grass. Sorry for not explaining the process more clearly since I didn’t post pictures of everything we did. The above picture is the final result of the day. After rolling out the old rotten hay bales, we spent the rest of the day spreading a somewhat even, thin layer over all the seed. Except on the hillside where Daddy wanted us to leave it thick so it wouldn’t erode. That was more important than having grass grow there at that point. Well, even if we hadn’t done a perfect planting job, I’m not sure if it would have mattered because the weeks following we had a deluge of rain, a week of freezing temperatures with snow and then breezes that blew the hay all around. Needless to say, now that the weather is getting somewhat warmer, we have grass coming up in patches. LOL! We’re gonna have to replant or something. At least the hay helped with the erosion at the time………   After Mr. Tad cleared the upper garden site for us, Noah and the boys spread all our drywall scraps on it.   Drywall has gypsum in it which aids in breaking up our hard clay soil to drain better.   Nehemiah calls it the “Drywall Garden”. LOL!     When you don’t have any other willing subjects around to practice on, you have to resort to self-portraits.   Ethan working on the tractor.   We took the boy’s tent down and found quite the assortment of items in there. Are these the normal things you find under your bed? Books, toboggan, lighter, alarm clock, bullet shells, sock, stuffed animals, stick/gun, bobby pins, coins (plastic that is), church bulletins, army guys, flashlight, old tissues, used lightsticks, sleeping bag cover, dried up bugs, lots and lots of sand and rocks, firecrackers, rope, candy wrapper, old batteries, empty plastic bag, etc……?   All done…..take it away. The boys (except Nehemiah and Gabriel who sleep in with Momma and Daddy) moved down to the unfinished basement.     Momma working with the boys on tidying up trash around the yard.     The guest bath before it was finished.   Here’s the wood in the loft.   Today Daddy is actually working on putting trim around that window.   Momma and Noah worked on installing our water filter. Woo-hoo! Crystal clear water to drink!   Have a blessed day in the Lord! [...]
